School Festivals duplicate

*During the COVID-19 pandemic, we have temporarily suspended all in-person activities, but we encourage you to check out our extensive online programming.

Our school screenings come in all shapes and sizes – online or in person – and they’re all available to you absolutely free of charge. While our screenings are primarily intended for high schools, we also provide a smaller selection of films and resources suitable for elementary schools.

To help you understand the spectrum of school offerings, we’ve created a handy chart, as well as more detailed descriptions of each model below.

If you have questions about which one is right for you, write to [email protected].

FILM LENDING LIBRARY

Canadian films are a great way to create an engaging learning experience. You can borrow a film from our library to cover a specific theme or subject – and you’ll also gain access to any associated lesson plans.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, teachers in Canada can receive film links that will be active for 7 days each, for educational purposes only.

To get started, just complete this simple Order Form.

You can browse our film catalogues and filter by language, theme or grade level on our Film Catalogues page. Don’t forget to join our mailing list for up-to-date recommendations to support learning around themes such as Orange Shirt Day, International Women’s Day, Asian Heritage Month, and more.

FILM FESTIVALS

If you’d like to plan an in-person or online event for a couple of classes or even your entire school, we can help! Our film festivals bring an interactive celebration of Canadian film to your school.

In addition to the films and lesson plans, we can also provide step-by-step instructions, advice and ongoing planning support, as well as access to promotional materials, games, quizzes and goodies for your students.

Depending on the size and scope of your festival, we can even host a Q&A discussion with a special guest such as a filmmaker, star, industry professional or subject expert. We introduce the films and lead lively discussions with students, delving into filmmaking, the themes of the films, and the value of Canadian cinema.

The number of events we can do with live guests are limited – schools will be eligible based on several factors, including film choice, guest availability, audience size, etc.

If you’re interested in hosting a REEL CANADA festival, please write to [email protected], and don’t forget to check out the titles on our Film Catalogues page to get started on the programming process!

*Please note that our events featuring special guests require at least a few weeks of lead-time for planning.
