Filmmakers Atom Egoyan and Vinay Virmani will take part in Skype Q&A’s with Windsor high school students September 27, 2017

TORONTO, September 25: To celebrate Canada 150, St. Joseph’s Catholic High School is planning a full week of festivities – including a REEL CANADA film festival for the entire student body. More than 1,100 students from St. Joseph’s Catholic High School in Windsor will attend their very own Canadian film festival on Wednesday, September 27, through REEL CANADA’s Our Films In Our Schools programme. Students will also have the opportunity to engage in lively Q&A’s via Skype with filmmakers Atom Egoyan and Vinay Virmani.

Students will watch four great Canadian films including REMEMBER (directed by Atom Egoyan), THE F WORD (directed by Michael Dowse), BREAKAWAY (starring Vinay Virmani and directed by Robert Lieberman), and THE WHALE (directed by Suzanne Chisholm and Michael Parfit), and engage, via Skype, with celebrated filmmakers Atom Egoyan and Vinay Virmani.

REEL CANADA will also hold a lunch-time contest awarding National Canadian Film Day 150 (NCFD 150) t-shirts and swag to the first 150 students dressed in honour of the Canadian flag (red and white) who take a selfie with REEL CANADA’s NCFD 150 moose mascot.

Media are welcome to attend to cover the Q&A discussion, and telephone interviews are available with REEL CANADA’s executive director, Jack Blum.

REEL CANADA is a non-profit organization that celebrates Canada through film. Canadian films are the stories we tell about ourselves — they open the door to so many conversations about place, nation, identity and what it means to be Canadian. REEL CANADA promotes the power and diversity of Canadian film and encourages this ongoing conversation through three core programmes: Our Films in Our SchoolsWelcome to Canada and National Canadian Film Day. REEL CANADA has presented over 2,000 festivals of Canadian films for more than 900,000 high school students and new Canadians across the country since 2005. Through these programmes, REEL CANADA increases audiences for our films, encourages dialogue and, most crucially, provides an opportunity to enjoy our great nation through the wonderful stories we tell. By celebrating Canadian cinematic storytelling, we can build a stronger and prouder Canada.
