National Canadian Film Day is REEL CANADA’s annual day-long celebration of Canadian film, through screenings, events, panel discussions, and conversations (both on and offline) across the country. It’s a day to throw off the shackles of fear and insecurity, stand together with Canadians from coast to coast and pat ourselves on the back for something other than various ice-related sports and sports-related doughnut shops. (Not that we don’t love ice-related sports and doughnuts.) It’s a way for Canadians to come together around the great cinematic stories we tell one another in this cold, vast country.

It is a way to have some GOOD FUN!

The inaugural event on April 29, 2014, was a huge success. We held 70 public and invitational events in 44 communities, garnered over 100 impressions in national media (from the CBC to the Globe and Mail), became a trending topic on twitter and were recognized in the House of Commons. Last year, NCFD 150 was even bigger and better with more than 400 screenings held across the country in every province and territory. This year will be the fifth annual NCFD – a pretty big accomplishment, we think – and in the wake of the enormous success of the sesquicentennial edition, we are returning to our do-it- yourself roots and encouraging and empowering Canadians to carry on the legacy of NCFD on their own, and turn it into an enduring annual tradition.

Join us on April 18, 2018 and
celebrate Canada by watching a
great Canadian film!

National Canadian Film Day is presented by REEL CANADA and supported – without apology – by CBC, Cineplex, Telefilm and a host of film festivals, movie clubs, schools, broadcasters and industry organizations.
