How can I get REEL CANADA to come to my school?
If you are an educator, and would like to bring REEL CANADA to your school, please contact please contact our Production Team. We’ll need to ask you some questions about the size and scope of event you would like to host, and then we can start planning.
Is REEL CANADA a government agency? How is the program funded?
REEL CANADA is a national initiative of members of the film and television industry, designed to bring Canadian films into Canadian classrooms. Though we are funded by several branches of government, we are an independent, not-for-profit organization.
How Can I Donate to REEL CANADA?
Where Can I Rent or Buy Films in your Catalogue?
We do not sell films, but if you are an educator, you can borrow a DVD from our lending library for any of the films that are listed in our Film Catalogues. Borrowing is free of charge, though we do require a deposit until DVDs are returned. If you are looking for a Canadian film that is not included in our catalogues, we may be able to help, but can’t guarantee that we will be able to find a copy if the film isn’t part of our programmes. Please send your request to [email protected] and we will do our best to help you.
Does REEL CANADA only visit high schools, or do you also do elementary schools and/or post-secondary institutions?
While REEL CANADA’s programmes are primarily geared toward high school students and English-language learners, we do offer a limited selection of films for younger viewers, and are always open to expanding our reach and introducing more people to the wide variety of great Canadian films. Please contact us with your specific request or question and we will be happy to discuss the possibilities with you.
I am a Canadian filmmaker who has recently produced a film that I think would be of interest to students. Can I submit it to REEL CANADA for consideration?
You may send a secure Vimeo link to [email protected] or a DVD copy to the address listed below, and our programming team will watch it. Please note that our programming process is extremely rigorous and must take into account the complexities of the education system as well as the needs and interests of our audiences. We test screen all potential films with high school audiences as well as teachers, and an extremely limited number of new films are added each year. If your film is approved by our programming team and also selected by our educational partners, we will get in touch with you to discuss next steps. This process takes a while, so please be patient.
