Hey, we got an award!
At the annual awards gala of the Canadian Association of Marketing Professionals (CAMP) on November 9th, REEL CANADA was honoured for Best Video Marketing for our National Canadian Film Day 150 (NCFD 150) promotional campaign. The award recognized the “series of promotional videos” aimed at “growing public awareness of Canadian films”. The jury noted the success of the campaign in attracting approximately 172,000 people to more than 1,800 screenings across the country and around the world, with another million Canadians watching on TV or online.
Central to that series of videos were the two commercials created by Leo Burnett Canada and produced by Skin and Bones production company. “The Woman Who Can’t Lie” and “The Man Who Was Always Late” were directed by award-winning filmmakers and REEL CANADA favourites Don McKellar and Atom Egoyan, respectively, and starred Sandra Oh and Vinay Virmani in the title roles. The honour is particularly gratifying because of the way the entire film community came together to ensure both productions would be of the highest possible quality despite limited resources. ACTRA Toronto, the Directors Guild of Canada (DGC), the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), and William F. White International Inc. all made significant contributions. REEL CANADA is proud to share this award with all of our fantastic creative and production partners. For a more complete list of all the talented and generous folks who contributed to the project, see our behind-the-scenes blog from back in March.
The leadership, board and staff at REEL CANADA are honoured and humbled to be recognised for this creative endeavour, and would like to thank CAMP for this nomination and award. And of course, NCFD 150 would not have been possible at all without the incredibly generous support of the Government of Canada through its Canada 150 Fund, the Ontario 150 Fund, Telefilm Canada, Cineplex, CBC and so many more partners and supporters.
